Why I Love Running

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’ve never been what you would consider an athlete. I am horrible at sports and the thought of going out onto a field and possibly getting hurt just does not sound fun to me. After high school, I needed an outlet for stress and a way to keep myself in shape. I took up running and it’s the only activity that has truly made me feel like an athlete for the first time in my life. Here are just a few of the reasons that I absolutely love to run:
It gets me outside: I hate running on treadmills, so most of my runs are done outside. I thoroughly enjoy being outside while I run. Even when it’s cold, after awhile it’s easy to forget about it when you have nice scenery to look at. The MCT trails are beautiful and I never get bored running them. There’s nothing like being inside all day and then escaping by going on a run.
It saves me money on fuel: I live close to my family and friends, so instead of driving to see them, sometimes I run.
It clears my head: No matter how stressed out I am or upset about an issue, I always feel ten times better about it after I run. Going on a long run clears my head and enables me to handle stresses, whether work or personal, in a better way.
I can eat what I want: I am not a person that can diet. If you tell me I can’t have something, I’ll want it even more. I naturally crave healthier foods when I’m running on a regular basis, but if I do eat a greasy hamburger, it’s not a big deal.
It gives me confidence: I never thought that I would be able to run a half marathon. I’ve run three in the past two years. Now I want to tackle a marathon. The confidence that comes from pushing your mind and body to the limit is indescribable. Running has also given me confidence in my professional life in teaching me that I can set big goals, work hard and achieve success.
